Greetings,

I'm Joseph Chang, an automotive designer based in Southern California with international experience in automotive design, product development, and brand strategy. My work is driven by a passion for thoughtful design, craftsmanship, and creating products that are both purposeful and memorable.

My interest in design began long before I knew it could become a career. Growing up, my father, a carpenter and furniture maker, introduced me to the worlds of furniture, architecture, and automobiles. His appreciation for craftsmanship and attention to detail shaped the way I approach design today and ultimately inspired me to pursue a career in the automotive industry.

At 18, I moved to Turin, Italy to study Transportation Design at IED Torino, where I spent five years immersed in one of the world's automotive capitals. During my studies, I collaborated on industry-sponsored projects with companies including Suzuki, Stellantis, Lamborghini, Jaguar, and Pininfarina, gaining firsthand experience in transportation design, future mobility, and the collaborative studio environment.

After graduating, I joined 777 Motors, a hypercar startup based at the Autodromo Nazionale Monza, where I contributed to the development of the 777 hypercar while supporting business development, partner relations, and the vehicle's international debut. At the same time, I worked with Red Travel, an automotive marketing and experiential agency, creating communications and creative content while coordinating luxury automotive events, private driving tours, and international partnerships for clients including Automobili Lamborghini.

After returning to Southern California to be closer to family, I continued expanding my experience through The CARLAB, an independent automotive design consultancy. There, I collaborated on design and packaging studies for OEM clients, contributing to market research, vehicle packaging, CAD development in Autodesk Alias, and client presentations.

Today, I'm passionate about bridging design, strategy, and execution. Whether I'm developing vehicle concepts, building brand identities, designing digital experiences, or collaborating across multidisciplinary teams, I enjoy transforming ideas into meaningful products and experiences.

Outside of work, you'll usually find me sketching, exploring specialty coffee, traveling, or photographing cars—interests that continually influence how I think about design, materials, and craftsmanship.
